Street Smarts

sandratripp - March 23, 2012 - North Greenville Events

Street Smarts is a national program that the Boys & Girls Club is required to participate in. Street Smarts is an attempt to equip kids with knowledge to help with healthy life choices and day to day decisions they may face on a daily basis. At the North Greenville Club Mr. Darnell, our Teen Director facilitates Street Smarts with our members who are at least in the 6th grade. There are about 25-30 members who participate in the program and they meet weekly. A recent theme in the Street Smarts program was valuing differences by showing members that they share commonalities such as common goals. In one recent activity, the members listened to music from different genres such bluegrass, heavy metal, country, rap, etc. Each song had the same message just presented differently, this got the message across on a level that members could relate to.
